Whitney Dominates, Talt Shines In Beavers’ Win Over Baylor
February 20, 2026 | Baseball
ROUND ROCK, Texas – Dax Whitney tied an Oregon State record with 17 strikeouts and Easton Talt drove in the game-winning runs on a ninth-inning single to send the Beavers to a 3-1 win over Baylor Friday night at Dell Diamond.
Whitney scattered just two hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings. His 17 strikeouts tied the Oregon State single-game record reached previously by Mason Smith in 1994 versus Portland and Cooper Hjerpe in 2022 against Stanford.
The 17 strikeouts, in addition, are the most ever at Dell Diamond for any level of baseball since it opened in 2020.
Talt robbed a Baylor home run in the seventh, then turned around two innings later and delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single to left off Baylor reliever Caleb Bunch. It broke a stalemate that came about when the Bears (4-1) tied the game on a run-scoring double by Travis Sanders in the eighth.
Whitney did not figure in the decision. That went to Isaac Yeager, who recorded the last out in the eighth for his second win of the season. Albert Roblez then came in and struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
Bryce Hubbard and Nyan Hayes both had two hits for the Beavers (4-1), who tallied nine as a team.
Oregon State continues action in Round Rock Saturday when the Beavers take on Southern Miss. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT (5 p.m. in Texas). Catch the game live on the Beaver Sports Network and Watch.D1Baseball.com.
