MORE TO COME:
Saturday's meet against Southern Utah is the first matchup in over two years, last competing at the Super 16 Championships in January of 2024 when the Beavers posted a 196.525 to out-score the Flippin' Birds and BYU Cougars, while finishing behind Minnesota. This year's meeting carries some extra weight, however, as it was announced Sept. 4 that SUU Gymnastics would be joining the Pac-12 as an affiliate member beginning in the 2027 season. Currently sitting just behind OSU in the national rankings, the new Pac-12 will also feature Boise State and Utah State.
ONE OF ONE:
Sophia Esposito has been a fixture in the Oregon State lineups this season, competing at least three events in every single meet including four-straight all-around performances. At last weekend's quad meet, OSU's standout junior had another strong performance, earning the meet's only 9.900-plus score for her fantastic floor routine as the Melville, N.Y., native added to her team-leading event title win total this season; entering Saturday's meet with SUU, Esposito has won six event titles, all while maintaining a perfect hit rate on 22 total routines.
TOUGHNESS:
Amid some tough judging on beam, senior Lauren Letzsch stood out in Boise, earning the meet's highest score with a 9.825 that was one of just three 9.800 or better scores given out to any of the 24 athletes to compete that event. For Letzsch, it was her third event title on that event in six meets while increasing her season average to a team-leading 9.812.
SET THE TONE:
Kyanna Crabb continues to be a fixture in multiple lineups for the Beavers, and on Friday in Boise, was able to set the tone for OSU's vault lineup. Originally from Vancouver, Wash., Crabb competed in the leadoff spot and earned a team-high 9.8500, her third 9.800 or better in the last four competitions. After a miss on floor, Crabb is now up to seven hits in eight routines this season, with one event title on vault thanks to a 9.875 against Sacramento State Jan. 16.
CONSISTENT COMPETITOR:
After not appearing in any meets as a freshman, Reina Marchal has broken into a pair of OSU lineups as a sophomore, competing on floor in every single meet this season and as part of the vault lineup in each of the last four weeks. With a 9.825 this past weekend in Boise, the Las Vegas native made it three 9.800 or better floor scores on the season while improving her average to a 9.758, competing exclusively out of the four and five spot in the lineup.
BEAUTIFUL BARS:
Ellie Weaver's strong senior season continued in Boise, particularly on the uneven bars. The team's leader on that event in average score (9.846), highest single score (9.950) and event titles (three), Weaver has anchored the lineup in each of the last four meets, executing a trio of strong routines that includes a pair of 9.900-plus scores and a 9.875 in Boise.
COMING TOGETHER:
OSU's vault lineup had its best meet of the season last weekend, tallying a 49.025 rotation score that was a high score for the season. Crabb's 9.850 led the way before a Savannah Miller 9.800 that set a new career high, while Camryn Richardson (9.775), Esposito (9.825) and Olivia Buckner (9.775) rounded out the scoring.
UP NEXT:
Oregon State gymnastics is back on the road for its next meet, traveling to Denton, Texas, to compete in a tri meet hosted by Texas Woman's University slated for Feb. 22 at 12 p.m. PT / 2 p.m. CT.
