Beavers Refuse To Lose in Malibu
January 17, 2026 | Women's Basketball
MALIBU, Calif. – Oregon State trailed by 14 points with 3:41 left in the third quarter but never gave in and pulled off a comeback 69-68 victory over Pepperdine on the road.
Jenna Villa delivered the clutch baskets, willing in an and-one off an unbelievable rebound and pass from Kennedie Shuler before making the game-winning free throw after Pepperdine fouled on an inbounds play.
Villa finished with 25 points – 10 in the final period – on 7-of-13 shooting and an 8-for-9 day at the free-throw line. Lara Alonso-Basurto delivered in a similar fashion with 8 of her 10 points coming in the fourth quarter. The freshman also pulled down six rebounds with two blocks and was +10.
The clutch offensive rebound and dime were part of a stellar all-around day for Shuler. The junior point guard delivered 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block.
Lizzy Williamson set a positive tone in the first quarter, scoring eight of Oregon State's first 10 points and blocking two shots in the opening frame. The Beavs struggled to contain the Waves three-point shooters however, allowing the hosts to make four three-pointers and keep the game even at 21.
The Beavers led 36-35 at the break after Villa led the Beavers with eight second quarter points. The junior canned two triples in the period. Susana Yepes added a three on her 23rd birthday.
The Waves came out of the locker room on fire, making their first six three-pointers of the third quarter in a 19-0 run. Villa put a stop to the run with a 5-0 spurt but the Beavs trailed 56-47 entering the fourth quarter.
Alonso went to work on the comeback effort. A personal 5-0 run got the Beavers back within six points at 60-54 and a post-up basket minutes later made it 65-64 Pepperdine. Villa went to work from there, scoring Oregon State's remaining six points on four free throws and the and-one. Her only miss from the line was intentional to take time off the clock.
Oregon State returns home on Thursday for a 6 p.m. showdown with Gonzaga. Fans can get tickets for the matchup between last season's conference regular season and tournament champions at beavertickets.com.
