Gavin Turley and Trent Caraway each homered but Oregon State was unable to overcome an early disadvantage in a 6-4 loss to Saint Mary's Friday. AJ Hutcheson also threw five scoreless innings for the Beavers, but Saint Mary's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first off starter Eric Segura. The Gaels, after OSU pulled to within two on Turley's home run in the third, upped their lead to 6-2 with a three-run home run by Brian Duroff in the seventh. Caraway hit a solo home run to open a two-run seventh for the Beavers. Easton Talt followed with a run-scoring triple later in the inning, but OSU was unable to plate a run in the eighth or ninth innings. Talt had two of Oregon State's seven hits.

• Oregon State and TCU are meeting for the sixth time; all five of the previous matchups came in Fort Worth.
• OSU won the most recent matchup, 3-2, at the 2021 Fort Worth Regional. That game was also an elimination contest. Wade Meckler drove in two and Justin Boyd had an RBI in that win.
• Dax Whitney, the Beavers' probable starter Saturday, has allowed just one earned run in 21 innings at home this season. It came on April 5 in a win over UC Irvine.
• Whitney has allowed just nine hits and 10 walks while striking out 28 in those 21 innings in Corvallis.
• Whitney has 89 strikeouts in 60 2/3 total innings this season, an average of 13.2 per nine innings.
• Gavin Turley tied Michael Conforto (2012-14) for the Oregon State RBI record on Friday, driving in a pair when he homered in the third. Turley and Conforto are both at 179 in their OSU careers.
• The home run was the 49th of Turley's career.
