Offense Stays Hot for Strong Sunday Win
March 09, 2025 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. –  The Oregon State offense kept clicking in the Jane Sanders Classic finale with a 9-0 win over Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Entering the seventh with a 4-0 cushion, the Beavers (11-12) added five runs' worth of insurance to secure their second consecutive win of the weekend. Jaeya Butler went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run to pace a potent Beaver offense on the day.
Â
Leading by four after three behind consecutive two-run innings, Oregon State got on the board with a Weir double, an Ella Dardis single and a two-run round-tripper from Butler for the initial distance. In the fourth following the fourth run by the Beavers, Abilene Christian threatened to trim their deficit but the furthest a Wildcat reached was third.
Â
On three pitches with two out in the ninth, Oregon State more than doubled their lead to 9-0 over the Wildcats. Paige Bambarger took a bases-loaded walk, followed by a Butler single that drove in Morgan Howey and Weir's double to left brought in Rylei Trujillo, Bambarger and Butler.
Â
Ellie Garcia (6-4) picked up the win after tossing the game's entirety. The Chino, Calif., native tallied five strikeouts to just one walk but allowed six hits.
Â
Weir was the other Beaver to get multiple hits on the day, turning in a 2-for-4 performance at the dish.
Â
Next up, the Beavers will open play at Kelly Field with a home-opening twinbill against Sacramento State on Saturday, March 15. Game one is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
