THE MATCHUP:
Alaska Anchorage will make the journey to Corvallis for the first time since 2019, when OSU posted a 195.825 in a tri meet against the Sea Wolves and Bowling Green. This season, UAA has competed in four meets, most recently claiming victory in a pair of home meets against Greenville on Jan. 23 and 25.
For UC Davis, who will compete inside Gill Coliseum for the fifth time in program history, the 2025 season has started with four road meets in five weeks, and the Aggies were last in action with a 194.100 against BYU and Southern Utah.
The Washington Huskies were last in Corvallis on March 8, 2024, when OSU celebrated senior day by posting a 197.225 to claim victory. The Huskies were last in action last Saturday, scoring a 195.425 on the road against Minnesota; UW will compete at home against UCLA on Friday before journeying to Corvallis on Monday.
BATTING ONE THOUSAND:
Oregon State was last in action against Auburn on Jan. 24 and had a strong showing. Not only did the team come within one tenth of a second-consecutive 197, the team also posted a perfect hit rate, with 24 hits on 24 routines. No Beaver scored below a 9.700 while there were 17 different routines that earned a 9.800 or above and seven at 9.900 or higher.
LETHAL:
Of the seven 9.900-plus scores against Auburn, four came during the final rotation, when OSU's beam lineup combined for a 49.575 and counted no lower than a 9.875. Sophia Esposito led the lineup off with a 9.875 and was followed by a pair of 9.900s courtesy of Olivia Buckner and Lauren Letzsch. A Jennifer McMillan 9.850 preceded Sydney Gonzales earning a 9.925 before Jade Carey in the anchor spot posted her second 9.975 in as many weeks.
The 49.575 marks the highest rotation score on any apparatus this season and came within striking distance of the program's beam rotation record, which came on Feb. 24, 2023, when the Beavers finished with a 49.650 against Stanford.
SUPER SYD:
Sydney Gonzales suffered a season-ending injury on Feb. 9, 2024 against UCLA, but the Newport Beach, Calif., native worked her way back and has appeared in every meet thus far in 2025. Against Auburn, Gonzales' 9.925 was a new season high mark and brought her up to 102 career hits; her career high on beam, 9.975, came in a road meet against Arizona State March 4, 2023.
IMPROVING EVERY WEEK:
After appearing in every single meet as a true freshman, Olivia Buckner has carried the momentum into her sophomore season and has competed in each of the first four competitions in 2025. Buckner, originally from Riverton, Utah, has improved her beam score by exactly .05 every single meet, which culminated in a 9.900 at Auburn that tied a career high.
CAREER DAY:
Karlie Chavez won her first event title of the 2025 season against Auburn, showing off a new vault for the second-consecutive week and earning a 9.900. The score set a new career high for the Clovis, Calif., native, surpassing her previous career high of 9.825. Now in her senior season, Chavez has been a fixture in the Beaver lineups this year, appearing in all four meets and thrice competing on both vault and floor.
LEAD OFF:
A junior from Waterford, Mich., Savannah Miller has completed 33 routines in her OSU career and in 2025 has competed in the leadoff spot on floor in all four competitions. Against Auburn, Miller scored a 9.850 for the second time this season, which came two rotations after leading off the bars lineup for the first time; Miller had completed exhibition routines on bars in each of the previous two weeks before working her way into the lineup.
ON A MISSION:
Four meets, four all around titles – Jade Carey has been on a tear to start her senior season. Known for her power as a vaulter and on floor, Carey's technical skill has shown up in a big way in 2025, as the two-time Olympian is the nation's leader on beam thanks to a 9.956 average that includes scores of 9.925, 9.950 and two 9.975s.
Entering Friday's meet, Carey is the country's leading all-arounder with a 39.694 average, winning 15 event titles and posting 14 scores of 9.900 or better.
FINDING A GROOVE:
Kaitlin Garcia set a career high on floor against San Jose State and followed it up with another strong showing, earning a 9.875 against Auburn. Through four meets, Garcia has scored a 9.850 or higher on floor three different times, while also appearing in the vault lineup every week. Named a team captain prior to the season, Garcia is up to 49 hits as a Beaver across 53 total routines.
FLOOR:
Known for her bars acumen before transferring to OSU, Sage Thompson has proven to be a versatile gymnast during her time as a Beaver. After competing in the all-around seven times as a junior, Thompson has featured on vault, bars and floor in all four competitions this season. The Lehi, Utah, native has exceled on floor in 2024 with an average score of 9.838, also averaging 9.806 on bars and 9.769 on vault.
ANOTHER ONE:
Oregon State Gymnastics is adding a sixth home meet to its 2025 schedule, Head Coach Tanya Chaplin announced last week; OSU will play host to the Fisk Bulldogs on March 21 at 7 p.m. inside Gill Coliseum. Located in Nashville, Tenn., Fisk is in its third season with a gymnastics program and last year sent five gymnasts to the USAG Collegiate National Championship.
Season ticket holders will receive tickets for the meet as part of their package, meaning it will come at no extra cost, and tickets will be delivered in the same method as all other home competitions. Senior day is still scheduled March 15.
UP NEXT:
The road comes calling for the next three competitions, all quad meets. It starts next weekend in Denver (Feb. 16, 1 p.m. PT) against Denver, Texas Woman's and Ball State, before the Beavs head to Fort Worth for a Metroplex Challenge matchup against Arkansas, Arizona and SEMO scheduled for Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. PT.
