Kyra Ly Sets Program Record With 7-Under 65

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kyra Ly fired the lowest score in Oregon State women's golf history in the first round of the Causeway Invitational on Monday.
Ly carded a bogey-free 7-under 65 that included an eagle and five birdies in the event's opening round at the par-72, 6,143-yard Del Paso Country Club. The previous record was a 6-under 66 by Nicole Schroeder (twice), Olivia Benzin and Ellie Slama.
A junior from Portland, Ly stayed hot in the afternoon round with a 6-under 66, including seven birdies, and holds the individual lead with a 13-under 131. Sneha Sharan of Sacramento State is five strokes behind Ly with an 8-under 136.

The Beavers were dominant on the first day of competition, shooting a 14-under 278-284—562, to share the lead in the 12-team field with Sacramento State. UC Davis is in third place, and 14 strokes behind the leaders, after posting an even-par 576.
The 10-under 278 by Oregon State in the first round equals the second-lowest single-round team score in program history.

Rebecca Kim notched her best score at Oregon State, a bogey-free 3-under 69 in the first round, and is tied for eighth place with a 1-under 69-74—143. Kim's previous best score as a collegian was an even-par 72 at the Leadership and Golf Invitational this past fall, and her best career finish is a tie for 38th place at that same tournament.
True freshman Clara Alevag posted her second career round in red figures, a 2-under 70 to start the day, and is tied for 12th place with an even-par 70-74—144. Alevag's best score through her first six collegiate events is a 3-under 69 in the first round at season's opening tournament, the Leadership and Golf Invitational.
Madde Sund had the team's biggest improvement on the day, jumped 18 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 21st place, with a 2-over 75-71—146. She was unable to record a birdie in the morning, but knocked down three birdies in the afternoon.
Raya Nakao carded a 2-over 74 in the morning, which included two birdies, and improved her afternoon score by a stroke, with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 third hole, to put her in a tie for 32nd place with a 3-over 74-73—147.
