RANKED:
Oregon State was ranked No. 17 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll, which was released on Dec. 16. The ranking represents a two-spot improvement over last year, when the Beavs entered the season at 19 and climbed as high as nine before finishing the year ranked No. 14 in the final poll.
HELLO, OLD FRIENDS:
Saturday's meet in Seattle will see Oregon State match up against a trio of familiar programs, all of whom are former members of the Pac-12 and opponents during meets last season. The Beavers met UCLA and California at the season opener last year in Oceanside, Calif., while hosting Washington in a February tri meet at Gill Coliseum.
Across those two meets, OSU bested both Washington and UCLA with a pair of strong scores, including a 197.325 against the Huskies that represented the team's third-highest score across the entire season.
GRADUATION:
The Beavers boasted a senior-laden roster in 2025, many of whom were regulars in multiple lineups. In numbers, that translates to the Beavs losing 179 of 338 total routines to graduation, or approximately 53%. On this year's roster, nine student-athletes completed at least one routine in 2025, seven of whom were at 10-plus routines and three at 20-plus.
PERFECTION:
Among those nine returners, three posted a perfect hit rate last season, with a hit being defined as a score greater than or equal to 9.650: Ellie Weaver (1-1), Mia Heather (3-3) and Sophia Esposito (39-39).
Weaver made her return to action from a long-term injury at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Final, posting a 9.775 on bars, which came after earning a pair of 9.800s during exhibition routines late in the regular season. Heather's three hits all came on beam, including a pair of 9.825s, while Esposito was a consistent member of the vault, beam and floor squads, averaging a 9.795, 9.831 and 9.866 on each respective event.
NEW FACES:
Oregon State added six student-athletes to its roster during the offseason, which includes five freshmen in Kaylee Cheek (Spanish Fork, Utah / Bold Gymnastics), Camryn Richardson (Pearland, Texas / Pearland Elite), Katie Rude (Stateline, Nev. / South Coast Gymnastics), Paloma Spiridonova (Dallas, Texas / WOGA) and Giavanna Tatone (Roseburg, Ore. / National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics), along with sophomore Kyanna Crabb (Vancouver, Wash. / Naydenov Gymnastics).
WE'RE FROM EVERYWHERE:
11 different states are represented across 19 individuals on the Oregon State roster. Led by California (three), there are two student-athletes each from Nevada, New York, Texas, Utah and Washington, while Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina and Oregon all have lone representatives on the team, with one athlete also from Mexico City, Mexico.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING:
The 2026 season marks year 29 under the leadership of Head Coach Tanya Chaplin, but Saturday's meet marks a first in her tenure: OSU is opening its regular season in the state of Washington. In fact, the last time Oregon State started its season with a meet in The Evergreen State was in 1990, when the team went to Seattle and defeated Seattle Pacific, 182.30-179.05.
UP NEXT:
Beaver gymnastics is back in action next week, heading to Provo, Utah, to compete at BYU in a meet slated to start at 6 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. MT at the Marriott Center.
OUR MISSION:
Oregon State Athletics strives to Build Excellent Authentic Visionary Student-Athletes (Go BEAVS).
