Comeback Effort Falls Three Points Short vs. Hokies
November 29, 2025 | Women's Basketball
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – Oregon State fought back from a 20-point deficit to get within three, but couldn't complete the comeback and dropped the Paradise Jam third-place game to Virginia Tech 78-67 on Saturday.
Jenna Villa scored 19 points – 13 of which came in the second half – and tied a career-high with seven rebounds. Kennedie Shuler poured in 15 points to go with five assists and five rebounds. Saturday's contest was the seventh of the season with five-or-more dimes for the junior point guard.
Four Beavers recorded five-or-more rebounds, led by Villa's seven. Shuler, Lizzy Williamson and Lara Alonso-Basurto all grabbed five boards. Alonso-Basurto also scored eight points with three blocks in a strong defensive performance for the freshman post.
The Beavs struggled to contain a potent Hokie mid-range game in the first half, led by Mel Daley's 18 points. OSU trailed 44-33 at the break and VT extended the lead to 55-35 with 5:25 left in the third quarter.
For the next 10 minutes, it was all Oregon State. The Beavers nearly erased the entire 20-point deficit, clawing their way back to 62-59, including a 10-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Villa was crucial in the comeback, scoring seven of the points in the 10-0 run.
Virginia Tech answered with an 8-2 run to regain some of its advantage and put the game away as the Beavers were attempting to create another comeback.
Oregon State heads to Eugene on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game against Oregon. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
