Shuler Nears School Record in Win over Beach

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Kennedie Shuler dished out a career-high 14 assists to lead Oregon State to a 71-55 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
Shuler's 14 assists marked the first time an Oregon State player recorded 14 or more helpers since Mercedes Fox-Griffin tied the school record of 15 against Arizona in 2007. The junior guard added eight points in 32 minutes.
The Beavers outscored the Beach 24-7 in the fourth quarter to break open what had been a competitive game. Jenna Villa and Tiara Bolden led Oregon State scorers with 14 points. Bolden added seven rebounds, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Lara Alonso-Basurto provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, and Lizzy Williamson contributed seven points and six rebounds. The Beavers outscored the Beach by 17 points with Williamson on the floor in the second half.
The Beavs won in the paint, outscoring Long Beach State 34-18 in that area. Oregon State shot 44.2 percent from the field (23-of-52) while holding the Beach to 33.8 percent shooting (22-of-65).
Oregon State seized control with a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter, turning a 48-48 tie into a commanding lead. The Beavers' largest advantage reached 19 points in the final minute.
The Beavs head to the Virgin Islands next week to take on no. 17 Vanderbilt in Paradise Jam. The game will be streamed on ESPN+
