IMPROVED ON OFFENSE
Adding shooting - internally and externally - was a priority during Oregon State's offseason. So far, so good. The Beavs shot better than 50% from the floor in back-to-back games against Air Force and Illinois. OSU shot over 50% four times in 2024-25 and just once in back-to-back games. Among internal improvements Kennedie Shuler and Tiara Bolden are each shooting at least 7% better and the additions of Lizzy Williamson and Lara Alonso-Basurto each aided the team's offense as well.
MAKE 'EM MISS
Oregon State's elite defense is predicated on making opponents take the shots they don't want to take. In a survey of anonymous coaches done by The Athletic, one said of Rueck's defense: "Whatever you're really good at, they're gonna take away. STARTING FIVE
- Oregon State hosts more than 7,500 local students and teachers for Tuesday's annual Beavers Beyond the Classroom game against Utah State
- The future Pac-12 foes will square off for the sixth time and first since Mikayla Pivec scored 18 points in a 75-46 OSU win inside Gill Coliseum in 2019
- The Beavers picked up its first of five possible power conference wins on Friday, outlasting Illinois 64-59 inside Legendary Gill Coliseum
- Defense keyed the victory for Oregon State as they held Illinois to just 33.9% shooting and second-leading scorer Gretchen Dolan to 11 points on 4/19 FG
- As one would expect for an early-season game, the Beavs still have room to grow. OSU won just the 24th game while being outrebounded in Scott Rueck's tenure.
