CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State volleyball is in action with a pair of contests this week, heading to Moraga, Calif., to face Saint Mary's on Thursday before welcoming LMU into Gill Coliseum for senior day on Sunday.

COMEBACK QUEENS
Beaver volleyball went 2-0 last week, completing a reverse sweep on the road at Saint Mary's before rallying from a loss in the first to down LMU in four sets at Gill Coliseum. Entering the week with 13 first set wins, not only was a loss in the first rare, it was also something that OSU had struggled to overcome, previously holding a 1-3 record in matches the team lost set one.
In bringing its record to 3-3 when losing the first, the Beavers are now .500 or better in matches when they win the first set (13-4, .764), lose the first set (3-3, .500), play three sets (9-2, .818), play four sets (5-4, .556) and play five sets (2-1, .667).
CROWN HER
Annika Hester was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Falmouth, Maine, native had an impressive pair of performances last week, tallying 28 digs (3.11/set) and 13 blocks (1.44/set) across nine sets played, also finishing with double-digit kills in both matches.
Hester set a new career high for digs at Saint Mary's, finishing with 15, also contributing five blocks in the Beavers' reverse sweep of the Gaels. With 11 kills in that match, Thursday's performance her first double-double at Oregon State. She carried that momentum into Sunday contest against LMU, finishing with yet another double-double that included 13 more digs and 13 kills, while also leading the team in solo blocks (five) and total blocks (eight).
CAREER DAY
Jackie Matias had a tremendous showing at Saint Mary's, tallying a career-best 45 assists to go with 17 digs, three kills and an ace in the match, and carried that momentum into Sunday's contest against LMU, where she had another double-double thanks to 38 assists and 13 digs. On the season, the Honolulu, Hawaii, native now has six double-doubles and is averaging a team-high 6.08 assists per set.

After a 10-kill, four-block showing against Saint Mary's, Alana Marrs hit .556 against LMU to finish with 12 kills, also adding six blocks. Across both matches, Marrs averaged 2.44 kills per set and is now hitting .360 this season with 190 kills and an average of 2.35 per set. The true freshman has also stood out defensively, as she currently leads the team in solo blocks (23) and total blocks (87) while ranking second in blocks per set (1.07), coming in just being Nathalie Scholz (1.12).
20 KILLS
Maëli Cormier became the first Beaver to record 20 or more kills in a single contest since Annika Hester at Gonzaga on Oct. 19, 2024, setting a new career high with 20 against the Gaels. Hitting .326 for the game, 15 of Cormier's kills came off Matias assists; she followed that strong showing up with 12 more kills against LMU, making it four-consecutive contests with 10-plus kills.
CONFERENCE LEADERS
During conference play, several Beaver volleyball players have stood out and enter this week's games among the WCC's leaders in several statistical categories.
Rumel sits at third for kills (183) and kills per set (3.73) while Marrs is in fifth for hitting percentage (.349), second in solo blocks (14), ninth in block assists (40) and tied for both total blocks (54 - fourth) and blocks per set (1.17 – fifth). Matias sists in eighth for assists (315) and seventh for assists per set, while Tia Shum's 16 service aces is tied for eighth; Shum also sits just outside the top 10 for digs (138 – 11th) and digs per set (2.82 – 11th). Scholz's 11 solo blocks against WCC opponents is tied for sixth highest and her 1.02 blocks per set is ninth best.
YOUTH
A big chunk of the Beavers' scoring this year has come from underclassmen. Though led by Rumel (359.0), Marrs (249.0) and Cormier (232.5), both freshmen, are in second and third place on the roster. Graduate student Annika Hester (209.5) is in fourth with sophomore Nathalie Scholz in fifth and freshmen Keila Gabriel (74.5) and Bridget Gould (44.5) following.
On a roster with 17 student-athletes, the Beavers have just five upperclassmen, which includes a trio of graduate students (Hester, Shum, Vivian Light), one senior (Rumel) and one junior (Matias).
WORLDWIDE BEAVS
Oregon State has four international student-athletes, which is second in the league behind San Francisco (seven); in the previous two years in the Behonick era, the Beavs had three each year. International Beavs include Cormier (Canada), Yasemin Narlioglu (Turkey), Scholz (Germany) and Shum (Canada).
BACK THE PAC
Oregon State will close its two-year stint as an affiliate member of the WCC at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State will join OSU and Washington State in a rebuilt Pac-12 starting next season.
