Beavs Sweep Zags, Win 11th of Last 12
October 09, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Keeping the momentum in the month, the Oregon State volleyball team returned home and stayed hot as they swept Gonzaga on Thursday night.
For the first time since the 1998 season, the Beavers have won 11 of their last 12 games.
Another sweep – the second in WCC play and sixth of the season – helped the Beavers (11-4, 5-0) push Gonzaga for another league win. Oregon State took care of business with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 result.
17 Lauren Rumel kills and 33 assists split between Emma Lilo (18) and Jackie Matias (15) paced a blistering offense while a lockdown defense kept the Bulldogs out of it. Tia Shum led the defense with 14 digs while Lilo tallied 11 to complete a double-double that forced Gonzaga to a cumulative .067 clip.
Oregon State hit at a .548 hitting mark for the match, including a .548 clip in the 10-point third set win to complete the sweep.
Finding themselves in a 6-3 hole early in the first and then tied at 13, the Beavers pulled away for the six-point set win. Rumel opened her night with six kills while Maëli Cormier and Annika Hester each split six to lead the attack and Matias helped the flow with seven assists. Lilo and Matias paced the Beaver defense with four kills apiece, on the way to allowing just a .111 clip from the Bulldogs.
Before Oregon State could pull away for a second set win, the Bulldogs proved to have more bite in the second, with the Beavers securing a three-point win at 25-22. It was a back-and-forth affair until nearly the end when Alana Marrs' block pushed OSU to match point at 24-22. Taking advantage of a 10th – and final – attack error by Gonzaga, the Beavers sealed the two-set advantage.
Seizing the momentum early, Oregon State jumped to a 17-7 lead and never looked back. Tied just once at 1 early, four kills split between Bridget Gould, Marrs and Rumel cemented the momentum, forcing Gonzaga call for an early break. Along the way to the lopsided 10-point win, the Beavers hit as high as .714 and led by as many as 11 while keeping the Bulldogs to a negative hitting mark for the near-majority.
A battle between the WCC's undefeateds is on tap for the Beavers in the next time out. On Saturday, Oregon State will matchup with San Diego on the road. First serve from the Jenny Craig Pavilion is set for noon and can be seen on ESPN+.
