San Diego Snaps Beavs' Streak
October 11, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
SAN DIEGO – Oregon State saw its six-match win streak come to an end in a four-frame setback to San Diego on Saturday.
The Beavers took the first set of the match before the homestanding Toreros took the next three 25-17, 17-25, 24-26, 19-25) to take the match – and the top spot of the West Coast Conference's standings.
With 13 kills, Lauren Rumel led the Beaver (11-5, 5-1) offense while four – Alondra Paz (13), Emma Lilo (12), Yasemin Narlioglu and Rumel (11 each) – put up double-digit digs. Emma Lilo (21) and Jackie Matias (20) combined for 41 of Oregon State's 46 assists on the day.
A strong run from being tied at 5 in the first pushed Oregon State to win the first set of the day. The Beavers battled through three ties on the way to the eight-point set win behind an offense that pushed through a .444 clip and sealed the win with the set's largest margin when Maëli Cormier blocked a Torero attack.
San Diego flipped the score in the second set, winning by eight at 25-17 to tie the match. The hosts never trailed in the frame but couldn't fully push the Beavers aside until they pulled away with a 5-0 run to make it 21-13. A pair of Rumel kills highlighted a late Beaver run to close the gap to four, but the hosts responded with a 4-0 run of their own to seal the set.
Tied 10 times, the Toreros took the last lead of the set and took the third set for the 2-1 advantage in the match. Neither team in the frame held a lead bigger than three and both traded two-point dashes right up until the Toreros locked up the frame off a Cormier miscue to make it 26-24.
An 11-1 run by San Diego broke open the frame in the fourth, capping the result for the home team. Hitting .471 for the set, the Toreros set up a gap that was too big for the Beavs to come back from. Oregon State crept back within four – at 22-18 – off an Alana Marrs block but the Toreros responded with a final run at 3-1 to win the match.
Oregon State will return home next Sunday – Oct. 19 – and matchup with San Francisco. First serve against the Dons is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
