October 02, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Opening October in a similar way to how September ended, the Oregon State volleyball team claimed victory. Winning their fourth in a row – and ninth in the last 10 – in a four-set triumph over Santa Clara.
The Beavers (9-4, 3-0 WCC) took control early, with wins in the first two sets and finished it off with an eight-point margin in the fourth to take it (25-22, 26-24, 15-25, 25-18) over the host Broncos.
Emma Lilo paced the Beavers with a strong two-way performance, tallying a double-double behind 26 assists and 14 digs. With 18 kills to her name, Lauren Rumel led all players – on both teams – in the stat while Maëli Cormier followed with 13. Tia Shum paced the defense with 18 digs on the night. Nathalie Scholz (7) and Alana Marrs (4) led Oregon State in blocks.
Once again, the Beaver offense clicked with a .321 hitting rate while the defense held Santa Clara to just a .135 clip.
Using timely separation from being tied at 15 in the first, the Beavers jumped out when it mattered with a set-defining 10-7 run to strike first. The opening set saw 17 ties and seven lead changes before an Annika Hester gave the Beavers a lead they wouldn't squander at 16-15. With five kills in the frame, Rumel set the tone for the night as OSU put together a .382 clip.
Despite trailing by as many as seven at 16-9, the Beavers stormed back to take a two-set lead with a 26-24 win in the second. OSU used runs of 5-0 and 4-0 to take the lead over Santa Clara before fending them off at the second set point to secure the advantage. After the Broncos knotted the frame at 24, a kill from Cormier and a Marrs block sealed the set win. A combined 13 kills from Cormier (7) and Rumel (6) helped OSU push across while eight Beavs combined for 15 digs that held Santa Clara to a .048 clip.
Unable to secure consecutive sweeps, Santa Clara held the Beavers to a clip in the red on their way to a 25-15 set three win. Deadlocked at 10, the hosts finished the set on a 10-5 run to get on the board and extend the contest.
Oregon State finished off the match – and third-consecutive WCC win – with a seven-point win in the fourth. A balanced effort – led by Rumel and Lilo – helped the Beavers finish off their hosts with the third set win of the night. Rumel's five set kills paced an offense that put up a .321 clip while Lilo dug out a set-leading five. Santa Clara was once again held in check offensively with a .135 hitting rate. Similar to the first, the set's first 14 points were split before the Beavers went on a run. Oregon State used two 4-0 runs to build separation on the way to the 25-18 win.
Through three matches in league play, Oregon State has held opponents to just a .117 clip.
Oregon State will stay in the Bay Area for the next time out when they'll place their 3-0 WCC start on the line against San Francisco. First serve against the Dons is set for noon on Saturday.
