Kyra Ly Shares Individual Lead Through 36 Holes In Seaside
September 30, 2024 | Women's Golf
SEASIDE, Calif. – Kyra Ly fired a pair of sub-par scores, and holds a share of the individual lead, to pace the Oregon State women's golf team on the opening day of the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Monday.
The Beavers concluded the 36-hole day with a 26-over 304-298—602 at the par-72, 6,147-yard Bayonet Golf Course and sit in eighth place with 18 holes to play.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at this link.
Ly, a junior from Portland, carded a 1-under 71 in the morning round before catching fire in the afternoon with a career best-tying 5-under 67. She's tied for the individual lead with a 6-under 138 joining Paula Martin Sampedro of Stanford and Riana Mission of San Francisco at the top of the leaderboard.
The other time Ly posted a 5-under 67 was last season at the Meadow Club Invitational when she won a share of the individual title in the 36-hole event. Ly now has 18 career scores in red figures with three already this season in only five rounds.
She has three career Top 10 finishes, all as a sophomore, and nearly had another in the first event of the season, the Leadership and Golf Invitational, where she finished in a team-best tie for 11th place.
Sophomore Raya Nakao posted an even-par 72 in the second round, after opening with a 3-over 75, and is tied for 16th place with a 147. She finished in a tie for 22nd place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational to open the 2024-25 season.
True freshman Clara Alevag is tied for 46th place with a 12-over 77-79—156. Sophomores Rebecca Kim and Kelly Hope were each a stroke better in the afternoon, as Kim posted scores of 81-80 and Hope finished the day with 83-82.
Stanford (5-under 571) was the only team to finish the day in red figures and holds a six-stroke lead over second place San Francisco (11-over 587).
