Oregon State Falls in Home Opener
September 01, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women's soccer dropped its home opener on Sunday, falling 2-0 to the Yale Bulldogs in front of 431 fans at Paul Lorenz Field.
The opening 45 minutes were a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating chances. OSU looked close to finding a goal in the 25th minute off a corner kick, but a pair of shots were blocked; the game was level at zero going into the break.
After Yale took the lead four minutes into the second half, Oregon State created one of its best chances of the game. Ava Benedetti forced a Bulldog turnover in their opponent's half and dribbled up into the box for a one-on-one with the 'keeper, but her shot went just wide.
In the 83rd minute, Valerie Tobias fired a shot to the near post that forced a diving save but was kept out as Yale claimed the 2-0 victory.
Led by three shots from Carly Carraher, Oregon State finished with 14 shots as eight Beavers played the full 90, including Mya Sanchez, who finished with two saves in net.
Oregon State returns to action on Thursday, hosting Nebraska. Kickoff against the Cornhuskers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
