Mackenzie Shivers Transfers to Oregon State
June 10, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State added point guard Mackenzie Shivers, a transfer who led Mesa Community College to third in NJCCA Division II, to the 2024-25 team.
Â
Shivers led the Thunderbirds to four tournament wins, including a 60-48 victory over CCBC Essex where she scored 28 points on 7-of-18 shooting and a 5-for-10 day from beyond the arc. She averaged a season-best 16 points, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the month of March,
Â
"We are glad Mackenzie Shivers chose to become a Beaver," Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. Â "Mackenzie is a true point guard with the ability to generate offense for herself and others, and she played some of her best basketball in the postseason. She has a knack for making big plays in big moments with deep range and a quick release. Mackenzie is also an impactful point-of-attack defender. She is a great addition to our team and community."
Â
"I chose Oregon State because of Coach Rueck and his coaching staff," Shivers said. "They truly believe in the family culture. Oregon State will not only help me become a better player, but it will also provide so many opportunities in the future and I couldn't be more excited to be part of this program."
Â
In her second year with Mesa CC, Shivers ranked second on the team in points per game (10.9), assists per game (3.3) and three-point percentage (34.9). She was named second-team All-Arizona CC Athletic Conference and second-team all-region.
Â
As a freshman with the Thunderbirds, Shivers started 25 games before an injury ended her season in February. She averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Mesa CC went 18-7 with Shivers in the lineup and 2-3 without her running the point.
Â
Shivers is the Beavers sixth addition of the offseason, joining transfers Lucia Navarro, Catarina Ferreria and Tiara Bolden. The Beavs also signed two international freshman: Danish center Elisa Mehyar and Spanish guard Cloe Vecina.
