May 24, 2024 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State freshman Quinn Baker earned Pac-12 Men's Rowing Newcomer of the Year honors on Friday, the second Beav to come home with the award.
He joins Jesse Maritz who won back in 2015. Rowing on the Third Varsity Eight boat, the Beavers finished third in that race and third overall in the 2024 Pac-12 Championships. The 6-8 freshman showed great promise in 2023-24, including stints with the Varsity 8 boat.
Andrew Balsbaugh and Ethan deBorja each earned All-Pac-12 honors. Both spent the majority of the season with the Varsity 8, helping OSU qualify for the national championships next week.
The Beaver trio will lead the team at the IRA Championships on May 31-June 2 at Mercer Lake, N.J. The Beavers will have three boats in the competition: their Varsity 8, JV8 and 3V8.
Oregon State placed third in the team standings at Pac-12 Championships, the fourth-straight year the Beavers have finished in the three-spot. The OSU Varsity 8 and JV8 both finished fourth in the event, while the Varsity 4 and 3V8 both placed third.
