Raya Nakao Fires 69 To Lead Beavers On Day One In Napa

NAPA, Calif. – Raya Nakao fired a 3-under 69 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the first round of the Silverado Showdown on Monday.
The Beavers shot a 10-over 298 as a team at the par-72, 6,146-yard Silverado Resort and Spa and are in 13th place with two rounds to play.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournaments begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Nakao had five birdies and two bogeys for a 69 and is tied for third place, just two shots out of first place. The true freshman has been fantastic in her first year at Oregon State with eight sub-par scores, including a career-best 5-under 67 in her first collegiate tournament, and four Top 15 finishes with two Top 10's.
Kyra Ly started the day with 14-straight pars before taking a bogey on the par-4 sixth hole. She got the stroke right back with a birdie on the par-3 seventh and finished the opening round with an even-par 72 to put her in a tie for 18th place.
Chayse Gomez dropped in three birdies, the second most on the team, but two double-bogeys kept her from a better score, as she finished the round with a 3-over 75.
True freshmen Kelly Hope and Rebecca Kim both carded a 10-over 82. Hope birdied her first hole of the day, the par-4 10th, and added another birdie on the par-5 fifth. Kim had one birdie that came on the par-4 17th hole.
USC (6-under 282) has a three-stroke lead over Northwestern (3-under 285), while Dianna Lee of Northwestern holds the individual lead after posting a 5-under 67. Brianna Navarrosa of USC is second with a 4-under 68 and three golfers are tied with Nakao for third with a 3-under 69.
