Kyra Ly Shares Individual Title At Meadow Club Invitational
March 05, 2024 | Women's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – The final round of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational was suspended due to inclement weather and unplayable greens on Tuesday, so the 36-hole results were official, giving Kyra Ly a share of the individual title and the Oregon State women's golf team a fourth-place finish.
Ly, a sophomore from Portland, shared medalist honors with Camille Boyd of Washington after both of them posted an 8-under 136 during Monday's 36 holes of competition. Ly is the first Oregon State women's golfer to win an individual title since Ellie Slama cruised to victory at the Silverado Showdown in April 2021.
The Beavers finished in fourth place with a 1-under 286-289—575 at the par-72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club. Stanford (13-under 563), Washington (10-under 566) and USC (6-under 570) finished in the top three.
Ly carded her best career score, a 5-under 67 in the first round, and followed that with a 3-under 69 in Monday's afternoon play to post an 8-under 136. She had 11 birdies in the tournament, the most among the 75 players in the field.
"Kyra played steady and consistent golf for the 36 holes," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "It was a pleasure to walk and watch her compete. She is one of the hardest workers around so to see it pay off with her first college victory is awesome."
Ly's previous best collegiate score was a 3-under 69 at the Illini Women's Invitational as a freshman and at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate this past fall. Ly's previous best finish was a tie for fourth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
Chayse Gomez finished in a tie for 12th place with a 1-under 71-72—143, giving her 11 Top-15 finishes during a four-plus year career as a Beaver. Her best career finish is a tie for sixth place at the Silverado Showdown in the spring of 2022.
True freshman Raya Nakao finished tied for 33rd place with a 4-over 75-73—148, Madde Sund posted an 8-over 73-79—152 to finish in a tie for 55th and true frosh Rebecca Kim finished in a tie for 71st with a 14-over 83-75—158.
The Beavers will next compete at the PING/ASU Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., which is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 through Saturday, March 30.
