March 04, 2024 | Women's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – Kyra Ly fired scores of 67-69 and is tied for first place through 36 holes, while leading the Oregon State women's golf team to a great start at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational on Monday.
Ly, a sophomore from Portland, shattered her best collegiate score with a 5-under 67 in the morning and equaled her previous best round in the afternoon with a 3-under 69. She's tied for first place with Camille Boyd of Washington with an 8-under 136.
The Beavers sit in fourth place in the 14-team field with a 1-under 286-289—575 at the par-72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club. Stanford (13-under 563), Washington (10-under 566) and USC (6-under 570) are the only three teams ahead of Oregon State with 18 holes to play.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ly carded her best career score, a 5-under 67 in the first round, which included six birdies and only one bogey. Her previous best collegiate score was a 3-under 69 (two times) at the Illini Women's Invitational as a freshman and at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate this past fall.
She stayed hot during the afternoon round with five birdies and two bogeys for a 3-under 69. Her best career finish is a tie for fourth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate this past fall. Ly has nine sub-par scores through 17 rounds this season, tripling the three she had as a frosh in 29 rounds.
The best Oregon State career score through 36 holes is 10 under by Nicole Schroeder at the NCAA Regionals in Madison, Wisconsin in May 2018 when she won the individual title with a 10-under 206.
The Beaver record for a three-round score is an 11-under 205 by Ellie Slama at the Ron Moore Invitational in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in October 2017 when she claimed medalist honors.
Chayse Gomez was steady as usual with a 1-under 71-72—143 and is tied for 12th place. She has posted eight rounds in red figures this season and will look for her sixth career Top 10 finish after recording four of them a year ago as a senior.
True freshman Raya Nakao had one birdie and a double-bogey in the first round but responded with four birdies in the second round and is tied for 33rd with a 4-over 75-73—148.
Madde Sund carded a 1-over 73 in the morning and finished the day in a tie for 55th place with an 8-over 73-79—152. She is likely to play her best in the final round as she has a season-best scoring average of 74.00 on the last day of a tournament.
True freshman Rebecca Kim knocked eight strokes off her first-round score, dropping in two birdies after the lunch break, and is tied for 71st place with a 14-over 83-75—158. Her best score during the five fall events was a 1-over 73 at the Leadership and Golf Invitational and the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
