Hulon's 9 Ks not Enough as Huskies Take Finale

SEATTLE – Despite a nine-strikeout – matching a career-best – outing for Logan Hulon, the eighth-ranked Washington Huskies pulled away from Oregon State by a 1-0 margin on Saturday afternoon with a walk off home run.
Hulon's nine punchouts were spread across the game's eight-plus innings as her arm kept Oregon State (15-19, 3-6 Pac-12) locked in with the hosts in a game that was scoreless until the game's final pitch.
Abby Doerr and Grace Messmer combined for six hits evenly as they led an Oregon State offense that tallied a dozen hits on the afternoon. The Beavers threatened with runners on scoring position in five innings but could not push anyone just 60 more feet homeward.
Both Doerr sisters – Paige and Abby – ended threats in dramatic fashion in the second and fifth frames as Paige used a diving catch in left center and Abby threw out a runner trying to swipe second. After failing to bring anyone home in the seventh, Hulon faced a daunting task of the Huskies' heart of the lineup but struck out the side to prolong the game and force extra innings.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, the Dripping Springs, Texas, product went all 8.0+ innings where she allowed just four hits and three walks with the lone run surrendered. Her nine punchouts matched a March 2nd performance in the Judi Garman Classic as the Beavs took down San Jose State. Additionally, it was the sixth time this season where Hulon struck out at least six batters.
With her three hits in the game, Messmer has now 13 hits in Pac-12 play, which leads the Beavers.
Oregon State will be back in action next week at home against UCLA. The series opener against the Bruins on Friday can be seen on the Pac-12 Network, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. from Kelly Field.
