Kmatz, Macias Lead Beavers To Shutout Win Over North Dakota State
March 02, 2024 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jacob Kmatz tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and Dallas Macias homered and doubled as No. 6 Oregon State defeated North Dakota State, 10-0, in eight innings Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Kmatz gave up a fifth-inning bunt single and faced just one batter over the minimum. He retired the first 14 batters he faced, six by strikeout. He struck out eight just one week after setting a career-high with 10 against Michigan.
Kmatz picked up the win, his second of the year and 15th of his career.
Macias, meanwhile, drove in three runs. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth – the first long ball of his career – and doubled in a run in the fifth. He was 2-for-4 in the win.
Travis Bazzana also drove in three runs, punctuating a 2-for-4 afternoon with an eighth-inning triple that drove in two. He also singled home a run in OSU's three-run fifth.
Oregon State, up 5-0 after five, ended the game on a 10-run rule with five runs in the eighth. Tanner Smith and Canon Reeder both singled home runs, followed by Bazzana's two-run triple. Bazzana scored the game-ending run when Trent Caraway reached on a throwing error.
NDSU's (2-8) starter, Logan Knight, took the loss to drop to 0-2. He allowed four hits and five runs in five innings.
Matthew Morrell and Kellan Oakes combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings of bullpen relief following Kmatz. The duo struck out three and allowed one hit and two walks.
