Posts Hand Rueck Win No. 300 at Field Trip Day
December 03, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Scott Rueck became the third Oregon State women's or men's basketball coach to win at least 300 games with the Beavers in a very Scott Rueck way as the Beavs dominated the paint and won a gritty defensive battle 63-56 over Grambling State.
Â
Rueck became the school's all-time winningest women's basketball coach at the 2023 edition of Beavers Beyond the Classroom, the annual field trip game for area middle and grade school students, and earned his 300th win at the 2024 contest with more than 7,000 students and staff in attendance.
Â
On the court, Sela Heide was the story of the game for the Beavs. The 6-7 senior posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while blocking a career-high eight shots. She was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor.
Â
The other half of OSU's towering front line – Kelsey Rees – recorded 12 points and 11 rebound for a double-double of her own. Rees blocked a shot and dished two assists.
Â
AJ Marotte and Tiara Bolden rounded out the OSU players in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively. Bolden added two steals while Marotte had two dimes and a block.
Â
Three Beavs had multiple steals with Bolden, Kennedie Shuler and Catarina Ferreira each swiping two possessions from the Tigers. The Beavs outrebounded Grambling State 48-36 while holding the visitors to 32.4 percent shooting from the floor.
Â
Tuesday's win marked Oregon State's first without a three point make since December 15, 2004 against South Alabama.
Â
The Beavs hit the road next, opening West Coast Conference play at Pacific. The game is a 6 p.m. tip slated to be televised on ESPN+
