Beavers To Battle #22 Illini in Champaign
November 21, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Oregon State faces its first ranked foe of the year on Friday night when the Beavs battle no. 22 Illinois in the State Farm Center.
Â
OSU will play back-to-back games with ranked foes and could face three straight depending on tournament results in the Bahamas. The Illini earned the ranking with a 4-0 start including a victory over then-no. 19 Florida State at home.
Â
The Beavs opened the year 1-3 but saw encouraging signs in Tempe last weekend with Kennedie Shuler recording a career-high 17 points while Catarina Ferreira had her first double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Sun Devils.

PLAY BIG
Whether she's playing the three or the four, part of the reason Catarina Ferreira is a Beav is to attack the glass. When she pulled down seven offensive rebounds against ASU, Cat became the first Oregon State player listed at six feet or smaller to grab seven-or-more offensive boards since former Pac-12 Player of the Year Jamie Wiesner did it in 2016. The o-boards were part of a career day that included 22 points and 11 total rebounds, both career-highs for her first-ever double-double.
Â
SUPER SHULER
The the Beavers needed Kennedie Shuler to step into a new role as the starting point guard in 2024-25. This far into the season, the sophomore has showcased her all-around game this season, becoming one of just 13 players in the nation to record multiple performances with at least 14 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Â
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Due to the WCC's 20-game league schedule and the desire to put together a challenging non-conference slate, Oregon State will be road warriors this season. The Beavers are one of nine teams in the nation with multiple stretches of 18+ days between home games with 21 days between their first and second home games (11/12-12/3) and 18 days (12/15-1/2) between the final home non-conference contest and first league home game.Â
