Raya Nakao Tied for First at Nanea Invitational with 18 Holes to Play

KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – Raya Nakao continued her strong play and moved into a tie for first place, while leading the Oregon State women's golf team for the second-straight day at the Nanea Invitational on Tuesday.
Nakao, a sophomore from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, has been dominant in a return to her home state, shooting a pair of 4-under 69's to share the clubhouse lead with Isla McDonald-O'Brien of Arizona State and Farah O'Keefe of Texas with an 8-under 138.
Lucia Lopez Ortega of San Jose State, Megha Ganne of Stanford and Lauren Kim of Texas are tied for second place with a 7-under 139, a stroke behind the leaders, with 18 holes to play.
The Beavers climbed two spots up the leaderboard, and into a tie for seventh place, with a 12-over 298-298—596 at the par-73, 6,449-yard Nanea Golf Club.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. PT on Wednesday and live scoring is available at this link.
Nakao leads the 60-player field in birdies (14 – 8 in the first round; 6 in the second round) and scoring average on par-5's (4.13).
Her best three-round score is an 8-under 208 in her third career college tournament (Molly Collegiate Invitational) and her best finish is fifth place at the Dick McGuire Invitational in her first college event (Dick McGuire Invitational).
Nakao has four career Top 10 finishes, all coming last season as a true freshman, and now has 17 career sub-par scores with 14 of them coming a year ago when she set the Oregon State single-season scoring record with a 72.05.
Senior Madde Sund knocked four strokes off her first-round score, finishing the second day with a 2-over 75, and moved nine spots up the leaderboard to 44th place with an 8-over 79-75—154. She had three birdies over the first two rounds and nothing worse than a bogey.
Kyra Ly followed up her opening-round even-par 73 with a 3-over 75 and is the second-highest Beaver on the individual leaderboard with a 3-over 149 to put her in a tie for 26th place. She led Oregon State in the first two tournaments this fall, a tie for 11th at the Leadership and Golf Invitational and a tie for fifth at the Molly Collegiate Invitational.
True freshman Clara Alevag birdied two of the par-5's in the second round that helped her post a 5-over 78, a day after opening the tournament with a 4-over 77 that included four birdies. Her 9-over 155 has Alevag in a tie for 48th place.
Rebecca Kim was 8 over through her first eight holes but played the final 10 holes at even par to finish with an 8-over 81. She finished the opening round with a 9-over 82.
No. 1 Stanford (18-under 566) sits in first place, three strokes better than second-place Texas (15-under 569) and eight strokes ahead of Arizona State and San Jose State.
