Raya Nakao Cards Even-Par 71 To Pace Beavers At Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Raya Nakao carded an even-par 71 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Saturday.
The Beavers knocked 16 strokes off their first-round score and moved up to 17th place with a 30-over 307-291—598 at the par-71, 6,278-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Oregon State's improvement in the second round was paced by Nakao's 71, Kyra Ly's 1-over 72, Rebecca Kim's 2-over 73 and Clara Alevag's 4-over 75.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at this link.
Nakao, a sophomore from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, had two birdies – on the par-5 first and par-4 11th holes – to go with two bogeys for her even-par round. She jumped 25 spots up the leaderboard to 44th place with a 5-over 76-71—147.
Ly, a junior from Portland, also moved up the leaderboard, 22 spots to 56th place, with a 7-over 77-72—149. She had two birdies for the second-straight day and now has shot 72 or better in five of her eight rounds this season.
Kim, a sophomore from South Surrey, B.C., had the biggest improvement for the Beavers from the first to second round, posting a 2-over 73 with two birdies to move 13 spots up the leaderboard with a 12-over 81-73—154.
Alevag, a true freshman from Gothenburg, Sweden, also played better in the second round with a team-best three birdies to equal Kim on the leaderboard with a 12-over 79-75—149. Her birdies on Saturday came on the par-3 third, par-5 12th and par-4 18th holes.
Senior Madde Sund, who led the Beavers with a 4-over 75 in the first round, posted an 8-over 79 in the tournament's second day of competition. Through the first two rounds she is tied with Kim and Alevag with a 12-over 154.
Host Stanford held the top spot with a 9-under 559, while USC is second with a 5-under 563. Vivian Lu of Washington jumped to first place on the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 136, one stroke better than Beth Coulter of Arizona State and Jasmine Koo of USC.
