January 23, 2024 | Wrestling
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Following a 2-0 weekend that featured a win at major decision and a ranked victory, Cleveland Belton – OSU's 141-pounder – has been named the Pac-12's Wrestler of the Week.
Slated at No. 18 by both FloWrestling and Intermat, Belton defeated Cal Poly's Abraham Hinrichsen by major decision (16-7) on Friday before upsetting No. 7 Tagen Jamison of Oklahoma State by decision (4-3) on Sunday.
Belton – the defending league champion at 141 – carries an 11-6 record this season with three wins by fall and another three by major decision. The nod from the league is the second of his career and first since November 8, 2022, which followed his first weekend as a Beaver.
He joins Gabe Whisenhunt (133), Brandon Kaylor (125) and Trey Munoz (184) as the fourth Beaver to win the weekly award this season. No other Pac-12 school has had more than two winners.
Belton and the Oregon State wrestling team will resume action on Friday when they take on 30th-ranked Little Rock in Hillsboro, Ore. The first bout is slated for 6 p.m.
