Oregon State Readies for Riverside Classic
September 06, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball team will look to keep up the momentum in southern California after sweeping the Asics Invitational last weekend. Coach Lindsey Behonick's squad rattled off consecutive three-set sweeps of Oklahoma and Boise State to improve their record to 3-2. Looking ahead, OSU will face Nevada, UC Riverside and Cal Baptist this weekend in Riverside, California.
HOW SWEEP IT IS
Thanks to sweeps of Oklahoma and Boise State in their last times out, the Beavs have won their last three with needing just three sets played.
BEHONICK MAKES HISTORY
Behonick became the first coach in program history to have her first three wins at Oregon State come via sweep.
THREE-BY-THREE
For just the second time since the 2016 season, OSU won three via sweep. Back in September of that year, the Beavs took down Tennessee Tech (25-10, 25-12, 25-22), Wyoming (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) and Idaho (25-16, 25-20, 25-16).
THE OPPOSITION
Oregon State and Nevada will pick up their series after it's been dormant since 2010 with the Beavs holding a 7-3 advantage. For the sixth time, OSU and UC Riverside will meet, and it will be the first time since 2008. Oregon State and Cal Baptist will face each other for the first time on Saturday.
SHE'S KILLING IT
Mychael Vernon has posted 65 kills through the season in the five matches played. The New York native has tallied double-digits in four matches and had nine in the outlier. During last Friday's sweep of OU, she was three blocks shy of a double-double (15 digs, 7 blocks). Staying defensive, she tallied 1.83 blocks/set in the Asics Invitational.
OH YEAH, WE dig that
After two weeks of play, Ryan White's 3.22 digs/set are third in the Pac-12 and her 59 digs are just one off the league's top-10. The Richland, Wash., product led the Beavs with 361, which was the eighth-most by a sophomore in program history.
Ava Pitchford recorded nine in the Boise State match, which was the most in her time with the Beavs.
GILL DEBUTS
Lauren Rumel and Megan Sheridan each notched 13 kills in their first matches at Gill Coliseum over the Asics Invitational. Peyton Suess added 10 kills and 10 digs to her credit. Pitchford dished 19 assists in addition to her dozen digs and had a kill while Doga Diraz had a dig.
