Raya Nakao Finishes Tied For Fifth To Lead Beavers

SEASIDE, Calif. – True freshman Raya Nakao finished in a tie for fifth place to lead the Oregon State women's golf team at the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
The Beavers concluded the 11-team event in fourth place after finishing with an 11-under 281-289-283--853 at the par-72, 6,147-yard Bayonet Golf Course. The 11-under 853 is the fifth best three-round team score in program history.

After opening the fall season with a 14th place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational, the Beavers have shown great improvement the last two events, a tie for third place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational and fourth place at the Molly Collegiate Invitational.
Nakao, a native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, continued the hot start to her college career by posting an 8-under 68-71-69--208 that included 15 birdies, tied for the fifth most in the field, to finish in a tie for fifth place.
She has recorded Top 5 finishes in two of her first three collegiate events after beginning her Oregon State career with a fifth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational (6-under 210). She has been in red figures in five of the nine rounds this season.
Chayse Gomez, in her fifth year Oregon State, also had a great tournament finishing in a tie for 13th place with a 4-under 70-69-73--212. She now has 11 Top 20 finishes in her Beaver career and 25 sub-par scores.
Gomez tied for the best scoring average in the tournament on the par-3's (2.75) and had 11 birdies and 36 pars, the fifth most in the field.
Kyra Ly and Madde Sund were two of only six golfers to record an eagle through the 54 holes with both of them coming on the par-5, 486-yard 10th hole in the final round.
Ly finished the tourney in a tie for 23rd place with an even-par 73-73-70--216, while Sund finished in 28th with a 1-over 70-76-71--217. They had a combined 23 birdies over the three rounds.
True freshman Rebecca Kim shot a 19-over 77-77-81--235 and finished in 57th place.
California and Oregon tied for the team title with a 28-under 836, and Ashleigh Park of Oregon won the individual crown with a 13-under 203.
The Beavers have nine days off before returning to action at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8 in Denver, Colo.
