September 25, 2023 | Women's Golf
SEASIDE, Calif. – Chayse Gomez and Raya Nakao paced the Oregon State women's golf team for the first two rounds at The Molly Collegiate Invitational that were played on Monday.
Gomez posted scores of 70-69 and Nakao went 68-71 on the 36-hole day with both golfers tied for fifth place at 5-under 139.
The Beavers sit in fifth place with 18 holes to play after carding a 6-under 281-289--570 at the par-72, 6,128-yard Bayonet Golf Course. The 7-under 281 in the first round is their best score of the fall season, bettering the even-par 288 in the second round at the Dick McGuire Invitational.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournaments begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Gomez had three birdies and only bogey in the morning round before following that with five birdies and two bogeys in the afternoon. She has posted three-consecutive rounds in red figures this fall season. Her best career finish is a tie for sixth place at the Silverado Showdown in the spring of 2022.
Nakao, a true freshman, had an amazing seven birdies in the first round and followed that with four more, all on the back nine, after the lunch break. She now has four sub-par scores in her first eight rounds in her inaugural college season.
The two Oregon State golfers are four strokes off the individual lead heading into Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Kyra Ly had seven birdies in Monday's two rounds and is tied for 32nd place with a 2-over 73-73--146. Madde Sund is also tied for 32nd place after shooting a 3-over 70-76--145. Sund dropped in five birdies in the opening round.
Rebecca Kim finished the day with a 10-over 77-77--154 and is tied for 48th place.
San Jose State leads the 11-team field with a 20-under 556, while California (19-under 557), Oregon (17-under 559) and Maryland (8-under 568) round out the top four.
