Mitchell Wins Dellinger Invite; Beavs Place Fourth
September 22, 2023 | Women's Cross Country
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Oregon State's Kaylee Mitchell picked up where she left off last fall, winning the Dellinger Invitational on Friday and leading OSU to fourth as a team.
Â
Mitchell's victory was dominant. The redshirt senior won the race by 18.1 seconds, finishing with hardly another runner in sight. She pulled away during the first full loop at Pine Ridge Golf Course and lengthened her lead over the second to secure the win.
Â
The Beavers got key contributions from three new runners with transfers Sage Brooks (17th) and Abigail Pradere (60th) scoring along with freshman Ruby Broadbent (57th). Sophomore Kate Laurent, one of four returners from last year's NCAA Championships team, placed 43rd.
"Kaylee was awesome. She's in great form and she is going to really have a great season. We were a little all over the place today behind her. Sage was great. Kate had a nice day - but, we were just a little too far back most of the race for my liking. It's early. We are a resilient bunch. We'll fix some things and be ready in three weeks," said head coach Louie Quintana.
Â
The Beavs, ranked 17th in the latest USTFCCCA coaches poll, finished behind BYU, Oregon and Cal Poly. The former two teams are both among the top ten in the country.
