Geisler Breaks 10K Record in Final College Race
May 25, 2023 | Women's Track & Field
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Christina Geisler left it all on the track. The redshirt senior raced to a school record 33:19.34 in the 10,000 meters to break the school record in her final opportunity at the NCAA West Regional Prelims.
Â
"What a way to cap off the day! Christina just closed out her magical season with a huge PR and a school record.  We are so proud of her - she was methodical and brilliant over the last 3k to move all the way up to 17th! Massive effort and just missing qualifying for NCAA," Oregon State head coach Louie Quintana said. "We had a solid day. Some narrow misses on advancing- but that is the nature of this sport. We are rapidly improving as a program and we were involved in so much today. Very proud of the season our jumpers and throwers have had this year. Big things ahead for us. Speaking of big things, we are really looking forward to the steeple and discus on Saturday. But, let's celebrate Christina Geisler and her amazing 2022-2023!"
Â
Geisler smashed her previous best in the race, beating it by 18 seconds her final attempt. She finished 17th, five spots away from advancing to the NCAA Championships but – in a theme for the Beavs – beat her seed by 20 spots after entering with the 37th-best time in the region.
Â
Ella Knott provided Oregon State's best performance of the day relative to the field, placing 16th with a  50.16m/164-7 throw in the javelin. Knott was just two meters away from a throw that would qualify for nationals, giving the redshirt sophomore plenty to build on before next season.
Â
Adael Scatena narrowly missed qualifying for Saturday's regional finals. The redshirt junior raced to a 59.40 in the 400-meter hurdles and the final mark to advance was a 59.31. She finished 25th overall.
Â
Markayla Billings and Maryann Ackerman each out-performed their qualifying position on Thursday with 38th and 42nd place finishes in the hammer and javelin respectively. Anneke Moersdorf and Delaney Bahn finished a combined 24 spots higher than their seed marks entering the meet. Â
