Hammoude, Higa Honored by Pac-12
May 09, 2023 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Frankie Hammoude and Kaiea Higa were honored by the Pac-12 for their performances in the 2023 season, the league announced on Wednesday morning.
Hammoude, the all-time leader in home runs in a career, made the third team while Higa landed a spot on the all-freshman squad.
No stranger to awards from the league, Hammoude hauled in her fourth all-Pac-12 honor in her fourth full season in Corvallis. In 2023, she hit 10 home runs, drove in 26 runs and had a .544 slugging percentage at the plate. On defense, she delivered with a .992 fielding percentage – collecting 114 putouts and just had one error. Her 10 homers marked the fourth consecutive full season with double-digits in longballs.
Bursting onto the scene for the Beavers in 2023, Higa will receive her first honor from the league. The Maple Valley, Washington, product drove in 14 runs, hit four home runs and had an OPS of .782 in her true freshman campaign. In just her third game in an OSU uniform, she played a key role in a win where she drove in three runs from three hits. She tallied four conference multi-hit games, including a trio with three base knocks.
Hammoude, Higa and the rest of the Oregon State softball team will face fifth-ranked Washington in the quarterfinals of the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m. PT from Tucson, Arizona.
