Minni Goes Low, Stokmans Posts Best Team Finish To Lead Beavers
April 05, 2023 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. – Amanda Minni fired a 2-under 70 to lead a final round surge by the Oregon State women's golf team at the Silverado Showdown on Wednesday.
The Beavers improved their team score each round and finished the three-day event in 11th place with a 50-over 313-305-296--914 at the par-72, 6,146-yard Silverado Resort and Spa.
Oregon State sat in 16th place after the first round but battled back the next 36 holes to climb five spots up the leaderboard. The Beavers finished ahead of four Pac-12 schools -- No. 22 Arizona, Colorado, Washington and Washington State.
Minni's 2-under 70 in the final round moved her 33 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 46th place with a 14-over 77-83-70--230. The 70 was one stroke off her best career score, a 3-under 69, which she shot in the first round of her collegiate debut, the Westbrook Spring Invitational in the fall of 2017.
She now has 13 sub-par scores in her six-year Beaver career with six of those coming this season.
Danique Stokmans had the best three-round score for the Beavers, a 7-over 75-74-74--223, that helped her finish in a tie for 15th place. She was consistent throughout the tournament with seven birdies and nothing worse than a bogey.
Stokmans now has six Top 20 finishes in her two years at Oregon State with three of them coming this season. Her best career finish is fifth place at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview as a redshirt freshman.
True freshman Kyra Ly equaled Minni with a tie for 46th place finish after posting a 14-over 80-75-75--230 that included five birdies in the tourney. She responded after a tough opening round with only birdies, pars and bogeys the rest of the way.
Chayse Gomez was a stroke back of Ly with a 15-over 81-73-77--231 to finish in a tie for 53rd place. Like Ly, she bounced back after the first round with three birdies and 25 pars in the final 36 holes.
Kelsey Webster wrapped up the tournament with a 35-over 84-84-83--251 to finish in 92nd place.
Northwestern won the 17-team event with a 9-over 873, while Zoe Campos of UCLA claimed medalist honors with a 5-under 211. Only four golfers in the 93-player finished in red figures.
The Beavers will next compete at the Pac-12 Championship, which is scheduled for Monday, April 17 through Wednesday, April 19 at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
