Beavers Drop Finale To Cougars

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State was unable to overcome two first-inning unearned runs in a 3-1 loss to Washington State Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
 
The Beavers scored their lone run on a Travis Bazzana sacrifice fly in the third inning. It scored Tanner Smith, who singled earlier in the inning for Oregon State's only hit on the day.
 
Jaren Hunter took the loss but allowed just two unearned runs in six innings of work. He gave up three hits and three runs with six strikeouts. The win went to Connor Wilford, who improved to 2-0 with three scoreless innings. Chase Grillo finished out the ninth for his fifth save of the season.
 
Next Up
Oregon State steps out of conference play to take on Nevada Tuesday night at 5:35 p.m. PT. The game is the first of two between the Beavers and Wolf Pack.

- Jaren Hunter has worked 14 2/3 innings in his last two starts – against Cal Poly and Washington State. He has allowed eight hits and three runs – one earned – with 11 strikeouts and two walks. He lowered his ERA to 3.55 from 4.66 after the start versus the Cougars.
