BYU Drops Beavers
February 17, 2023 | Softball
TEMPE, Ariz. -- With a chance to tie it in the bottom of the seventh, Oregon State stranded a pair on base - including the tying run in scoring position at second - as they fell to BYU on Friday afternoon.Â
Both of the Beavers' (3-4) runs came via solo shots - by Madi Simon and Frankie Hammoude - to tie the game in the third inning after BYU plated their first two across the game's first two frames. Simon's came on a 1-0 count as she powered it to left field, Hammoude's blast tied it just two batters later.Â
Tarni Stepto (0-2) was charged with the loss, as she surrendered all three runs (two earned), four hits and walked a pair. The junior from Sydney fanned five over six complete innings. Sarah Haendiges made her second appearance in as many days, coming in on relief in the seventh, where she struck out one and allowed a hit.Â
Oregon State will continue play in the Littlewood Classic tomorrow but the action shifts to GCU with a twinbill. The Beavers will meet an instate foe, Portland State, in the day's first game - set for 10 a.m. PT. Tentatively set for 12:30 p.m. PT, OSU will follow with a game versus Weber State.Â
