Amanda Minni Leads Beavers Through 36 Holes In California
February 13, 2023 | Women's Golf
RANCHO SANTE FE, Calif. – Amanda Minni was exceptional on the opening day of the spring season, as she led the Oregon State women's golf team at the San Diego State Classic on Monday.
Minni began the tourney with a 3-over 75 in the morning round and followed that with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon and is tied for second place with a 2-over 146. She had six birdies and nothing worse than a bogey on the day.
The senior is tied with four other golfers for second place and only four strokes behind clubhouse leader Jo Hua Hung of Georgia, who was the only player to finish the 36-hole day in red figures with a 2-under 71-71--142.
Minni's best career finish is a tie for third place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in the fall of 2019. Her best finish this season is a tie for sixth place at the USF Intercollegiate in mid-September. She has three career Top 10 finishes.
The Beavers sit in seventh place with a 38-over 312-302--614 at The Farms Golf Club, a par-72, 6,329-yard layout, which was challenging for all 12 teams in the field. Iowa State holds a six-stroke lead over Georgia with a 16-over 303-289--592.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start, and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Danique Stokmans dropped in a team-best seven birdies over the two rounds and is in 23rd place with a 9-over 79-74--153. The seven birdies were tied for the most in the 63-player field and her scoring average of 2.75 on the par-3's is tied for the best.
Chayse Gomez had three birdies in the opening round to post a 3-over 75 and was 9 over through her first eight holes in the second round before rallying at 2 under the rest of the way to record a 10-over 75-79--154 that has her in a tie for 24th place.
Kelsey Webster was five strokes better in her afternoon round that moved her up the leaderboard and into a tie for 47th place with a 17-over 83-78--161.
True freshman Kyra Ly is tied for 61st place with a 23-over 83-84--167.
