Whisenhunt Collects Accolades from NCAA and Pac-12

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a 5-1 opening weekend that saw a top-four upset in the Southeast Open, Gabe Whisenhunt was honored as the NCAA Wrestling Athlete of the Week as well as the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week.
The Corvallis product highlighted his weekend with a victory by takedown at 10-9 over #4 Virginia Tech's Sam Latona to secure his place in the final of the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia on Saturday. It marked the biggest win in the sophomore's career.
Whisenhunt's first week vaulted him into the 23rd (Intermat) and 24th (FloWrestling) spots in the rankings. He finished the 2022-23 season with a 9-3 mark. Dating back to last season, Whisenhunt is the second straight Beaver to receive the honor from the Pac-12 and third OSU wrestler to get the nod in the season's first week.
The Beavers will be back on the mat on November 19 when they meet eighth-ranked Iowa in a road dual.
