Oregon State Opens 23-24 at Head of the Charles
October 22, 2023 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team placed seventh in the men's championship fours at the Head of the Charles, capping a solid weekend for the Beavers.
OSU's current roster competed only in the men's championship fours, finishing seventh. The tight race saw Oregon State finish within one second of five competitors.
"This is such a fun regatta. Seeing old friends and being among the best rowers in the world is what it's all about. The guys had a good piece, battling a stiff head wind and matching their seed. They came off proud of their efforts but knew they could do better. Lidya Acar was a champion on the rudder, steering a great course. And Isaac Beaman stroked the boat after picking up rowing less than a year ago. To be at that level so quickly is what Oregon State does well," head coach Gabe Winkler said.
The Oregon State alumni boat opened the weekend with a 24th place finish in the men's alumni 8, recording the top-half finish required to earn a spot in the race next fall. OSU was comfortably in front of the 25th place boat, coming in seven seconds before.
Beaver head coach Gabe Winkler competed as well. His Old Glory Boat Club boat finished third in the Masters 40+ 8.
