Raya Nakao Leads Beavers On Day Two At Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. – True freshman Raya Nakao carded a 4-under 67 that helped the Oregon State women's golf team climb four spots up the leaderboard at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday.
The Beavers had several golfers contribute in the second round, knocking 12 strokes off their opening day score, and moved into a tie for seventh place with a 6-over 293-281--574 at the par-71, 6,269-yard Stanford Golf Course.
The stacked 19-team field features every team ranked among the Top 60 nationally by Golfstat.com. No. 11 USC and No. 28 Virginia share the team lead with a 5-under 563.
Oregon State, ranked No. 48 in the nation coming into the event, will play its final 18 holes of the fall season on Sunday.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Nakao, a native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, continued an impressive start to her freshman campaign with five birdies and only one bogey on Saturday. She had four birdies in the first round for an even-par 71 and is in fifth place in the 100-player field with a 4-under 71-67--138.
The best collegiate score of Nakao's collegiate career is a 5-under 67 at the Dick McGuire Invitational, which came in the second round of the fall's opening tournament. She has recorded a fifth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational and a tie for fifth place at the Molly Collegiate Invitational.
Chayse Gomez fired a 1-under 70 for the second-straight day at the Stanford Intercollegiate and is tied for 12th place with a 2-under 140. It's the seventh time in her last nine rounds she has posted a score in red figures.
Gomez, a fifth-year senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., has five career Top 10 finishes with four of them coming last season. In the last two events entering the Stanford Intercollegiate, Gomez finished in a tie for 13th place at the Molly Collegiate Invitational and a tie for 17th place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Kyra Ly dropped in four birdies on Saturday, to go with four bogeys, and finished the day with an even-par 71. The solid round moved her 20 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 41st place with a 4-over 75-71--146.
Ly will look to make another move up the leaderboard in Sunday's final round, as she's coming off career bests in the Beavers' last tournament with a 7-under 209 and tie for fourth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
Madde Sund played four strokes better in her second round, posting a 2-over 73 with four birdies, which jumped her 11 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 68th place with an 8-over 77-73--150.
