
Beavers Drop Match to Pilots

PORTLAND, ORE.  –  Logan Farrington scored his 10th goal of the season, but the Oregon State men's soccer team fell to No. 17 Portland 2-1 Saturday evening in Portland, Ore.

Farrington struck in the first half to give the Beavers an early lead, but the Pilots answered with a pair of second-half goals to take the win. Oregon State out-shot Portland 13-10 in the contest.

The Beavers nearly took the lead eight minutes into the contest, as Javier Armas played a long ball that found Farrington in space, but the forward's effort was saved. Ellis Spikner forced a sprawling save in the 16th minute.

Spikner took aim again in the 34th, but his effort from the right side of the box was blocked out of play for a corner. Farrington gave Oregon State the lead in the 35th, as he cut the ball back onto his left foot before firing it into the bottom corner of the net.

The Beavers headed to the intermission leading 1-0.

The Pilots battled back in the second half, leveling the score in the 52nd, before taking the lead in the 57th.

Farrington nearly evened things up in the 80th minute, as his shot from the left side of the box took a deflection before being saved by the Pilot netminder. Arnau Farnos smashed a shot on target with three minutes to play, but the Portland keeper again held firm to lock down the victory.

The Beavers will return home on Thursday to take on Stanford.
