
Bears Knock Off Beavs in Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif. – Oregon State put itself in position to split the Bay Area road trip, but a late Cal run pushed the Golden Bears past the Beavers in a 64-62 defeat.

Bendu Yeaney was once again a strong source of offense for OSU with a team-high 16 points along with two steals defensively. Talia von Oelhoffen also scored in double figures with 12 points while dishing six assists, grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots.

Jelena Mitrovic put forth yet another strong all-around effort with eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks despite foul trouble.

OSU had a strong start to the game with a balanced attack and stout defense leading to early advantages on the scoreboard. OSU held Cal to 29.4 percent from the floor while making 50 percent on the other end to pick up an 18-13 lead. Six players scored in the first ten minutes. Among them were Shalexxus Aaron, Noelle Mannen and von Oelhoffen, who combined for a 7-0 run to pick up an early 9-2 lead.

The second quarter proved to be tougher for Oregon State. The Beavers stretched their lead to seven on multiple occasions with three-pointers from Timea Gardiner and von Oelhoffen, but the Bears clawed back with a late 6-0 spurt. OSU entered the half with a 35-32 lead.

Oregon State was forced to battle the Bears and foul trouble in the third quarter as the Beavs were called for several touch fouls that sent Raegan Beers and Mitrovic to the bench with four. Gardiner filled in ably at the five and Aaron provided a personal 5-0 run as the Beavs grew the lead back out to seven at the conclusion of the third, 53-46. Yeaney provided key scoring throughout the period with eight points including a crucial layup with six seconds left.

Cal took its first lead of the game in the fourth quarter. The Bears battled their way into the lead with 4-0 and 5-0 spurts during the period, going up 61-60 on a corner three from Jayda Curry. Von Oelhoffen put OSU back in front with two free throws, but Cal responded with a layup and late shots from the Beavers didn't fall.

Up next, the Beavs return home to battle No. 9 Utah. OSU battles the Utes at 6 p.m. with the game televised on Pac-12 Networks.
