CORVALLIS, Ore. – Chayse Gomez and Ellie Slama both fired a 5-under 67 to lead a final-round charge by the Oregon State women's golf team at the Silverado Showdown on Wednesday.
The Beavers shot a 6-under 282, the best score by five strokes in the final round, and vaulted seven spots up the leaderboard to finish in sixth place with a 26-over 305-303-282--890 at the par-72, 6,192-yard Silverado Country Club.
The 5-under 67 by Gomez is the best score of her Oregon State career and helped her post a career-best tie for sixth place finish with a 1-under 75-73-67--215.
Her previous best score was a 3-under 69 at the Wildcat Invitational last season and the PING/ASU Invitational two weeks ago. Her previous best finish was a tie for 12th place at the Florida State Match-Up earlier this spring.
Slama carded a 5-under 67 for the fifth time in her sensational Beaver career and finished the tourney in a tie for 10th place with a 1-over 72-78-67--217. She has now shot 45 sub-par scores, the most in school history.
She moved into second all-time in Oregon State history with 14 career Top 10 finishes and trails only All-American Kathleen Takaishi who finished 16 times in the Top 10 from 1995-99.
Gomez and Slama were within one shot of tying the Oregon State program record of a 6-under 66 that is held by Olivia Benzin, Nicole Schroeder (three times) and Slama (two times).
Kelsey Webster had her best score in the final round, a 1-over 73, that moved her 11 spots up and into a tie for 49th place with a 12-over 77-78-73--228.
