
Escobar, Haendiges Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors

SAN FRANCISCO – Freshmen standouts Kiki Escobar and Sarah Haendiges have earned Pac-12 weekly conference awards after their performances last weekend, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Escobar takes home her second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor while Haendiges takes home her first weekly nod as the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week.
In No. 20 Oregon State's four-game weekend, the freshmen helped the Beavers go 4-0 with a win at Saint Mary's before the first weekend sweep of the season at Cal. Oregon State (29-8, 5-4 Pac-12) have given up just two runs in its last seven games, outscoring its opponents 29-2.
Escobar went 10-for-16 this weekend (.625 batting average) with two RBI, two doubles and four runs scored. The second baseman added a .750 slugging percentage and had two stolen bases.
Escobar reached base in all four outings, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance at Saint Mary's and a 3-for-4 game in the second game at Cal. Capping of the weekend, Escobar was one of just two Beavers to register a hit in the pitchers' duel in the Cal series finale.
Escobar leads the team with an astonishing 53 hits and has started in all 37 games for the Beavers.
Haendiges' first conference award comes after a stellar weekend in the circle for the Orange & Black. The Upland, Calif. native appeared in all four games with two complete shutout victories, improving to 9-2 this season and moving her ERA to 1.79.
Haendiges struck out a combined 16 batters in 17.0 innings, surrendering just nine hits and one walk over the course of four games.
The right hander came in for relief on two different occasions that was highlighted by four strikeouts in two frames at Saint Mary's to keep the shutout intact.
Escobar, Haendiges and the rest of the Beavers turn their attention to this weekend's Pac-12 series with Arizona at Kelly Field. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m. PT and continues on Saturday, April 9 at 4:00 p.m. PT. The series finale is slated for Sunday, April 10 at 11 a.m. PT.
