Beavers Drop Series Opener at Oregon in Weather Frenzy

EUGENE, Ore. – In the Rivalry Series opener on Friday evening, Oregon State softball suffered a 5-0 setback at Jane Sanders Stadium after the game was called early due to inclement weather in the area. The Beavers fall to 31-16 overall and 7-12 in Pac-12 play.
The Beavers and Ducks square off again tomorrow at 6 p.m. PT followed by the series finale on Sunday at 4 pm. PT in Eugene. Both games will be available on the Pac-12 Networks.
Senior Mariah Mazon suffered the loss in the circle, throwing the four innings with three strikeouts.
Oregon plated a run in the first and second innings while the first Beaver hit didn't occur until the third frame. Freshman Kiki Escobar knocked a two-out single up the middle that was followed by a Frankie Hammoude walk. An infield grounder ended the Beaver threat.
The Ducks added a trio of insurance runs with a two-run shot and an RBI double, leading by five after four. After a 30 minute rain delay in the middle of the fourth frame, the game was eventually called.
