Cooper Hjerpe tied the Oregon State single-game record with 17 strikeouts but the Beavers lost a 1-0 decision to Stanford Friday night at Goss Stadium. Kody Huff and Braden Montgomery hit back-to-back doubles for the Cardinal in the 10th inning to send Stanford to the win. Wade Meckler had four hits to lead the Beavers, who tallied nine overall.Â

• Cooper Hjerpe's previous career high for strikeouts was 12 against Arizona State on March 18 of this season. In that start versus the Sun Devils, he allowed one hit with two walks in seven innings.
• Hjerpe's 17 strikeouts are the most nationally this season.
• Hjerpe struck out eight straight batters from the sixth through the eighth. That equaled Brandon Eisert's outing on April 4, 2017 at Portland.
• Hjerpe has allowed just three hits and three walks in 15 innings over his last two starts at Goss. He has 29 strikeouts over those 15 innings.
• Hjerpe has struck out seven or more in six of his seven starts this season. He's posted eight or more in five of those seven.
• Friday's game marked the first time this season Hjerpe did not receive a decision. He entered the opener tied for the national lead with six wins.
• Travis Bazzana batted in the third spot of the lineup for the first time this season. Jacob Melton was in the four spot for the first time since March 13 at Washington State. Garret Forrester also batted in the five spot, his first since the finale at WSU.
