The super senior had a weekend to remember at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
SAN FRANCISCO — Oregon State softball senior Mariah Mazon has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday. The conference nod is her fourth of her career and first this season.
The conference award is the third straight week that a Beaver has been honored after Kiki Escobar (Freshman of the Week, Feb. 22) and Frankie Hammoude (Player of the Week, Feb. 15) did so.
Mazon collects the honor following a weekend for the record books. The Tulare, Calif. native struck out a combined 27 batters in three appearances (17.2) IP), collecting three wins in the Beavers' five games. Mazon surrendered just eight hits and four walks over the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic weekend and gave up one earned run.
The senior also threw her sixth no-hitter performance vs. CSUN on Saturday, Feb. 26, tying a career-best 13 strikeouts. It marked the third time this season with 13 and her fourth double-digit strikeout game. Mazon shut down No. 17 Tennessee in the weekend opener, striking out 11 in a complete-game effort and helping Oregon State defeat the Lady Vols, 5-2.
From behind the place, Mazon also took the MNCC by storm. The super senior led the all players in the tournament in total hits (11), RBIs (13) and doubles (4) while finishing second with eight runs scored. Mazon led the team with two home runs and slugged an exceptional 1.150, registering 23 total bases.
Mazon and the rest of the Beavers turn their attention to the Amy S. Harrison Classic this weekend, March 4-6, in Riverside, Calif. The Beavers match up against Sacred Heart, UC Riverside, CSUN, California Baptist, and North Dakota State.
All Oregon State games are available to follow along via live stats while the clash between OSU and CBU will be streamed. Links will be available on the softball schedule page at OSUBeavers.com.
