Oregon State wraps up unprecedented run of five-straight game vs. ranked opponents
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Stanford 87-63 Friday evening at Gill Coliseum.
Â
"Five-straight games against top-25 teams is a lot, and what I have loved about this stretch is the way our team has approached it," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "They've allowed each of these opportunities to make us better – they've accepted the challenge and they've risen. Ultimately you have to give Stanford a lot of credit. I think they're the best team – they're as deep as anybody I've seen. I liked our fight tonight. I really like the progress I'm seeing from our team – we keep building and we keep getting better."
Â
Friday's game marked Oregon State's fifth-straight contest against a ranked opponent, the longest stretch in Pac-12 history dating back to at least the 1999-2000 season.
Â
Talia von Oelhoffen scored 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor. Taya Corosdale narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Â
Greta Kampschroeder tallied seven points on 3-for-6 shooting. AJ Marotte and Tea Adams also finished with seven points apiece.
Â
As a team, the Beavers shot 40.7 percent from the floor.
Â
Both sides played strong defense early on, as the Beavers headed to the game's first media timeout in front 6-4. The Cardinal took a 17-10 lead into the second frame.
Â
Stanford brought the advantage to double-figures mid-way through the second quarter. The Cardinal headed to the break in front 36-27.
Â
Oregon State surged back to get within four with four minutes left in the third frame. Stanford headed to the closing frame up 60-49.
Â
The Cardinal pulled away in the fourth to take the win by 24.
Â
The Beavers will host Senior Day on Sunday when California visits Gill Coliseum.
